“If you want to be taken as an expert and thought leader in your field, you need to rid three words from your vocabulary:
Basically
Essentially
Actually
This set of filler adverbs adds no value or additional meaning to speech. Moreover, using them diminishes your message and makes communication more difficult. This is ironic because “basically,” “essentially” and “actually” are meant to streamline and simplify message.
Instead, they are nothing more than a distraction.
Experts Simplify Ideas, not Speech
Regardless of the area of expertise, great communicators are labeled as such because they can effortlessly explain complex notions and make people excited about topics far out of their base of understanding.
